Obituary for Agnes Shapwaykeesic

Agnes Loretta Shapwaykeesic
October 29, 1961 to March 10, 2022

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Agnes Shapwaykeesic at the age of 60 years old. Born in Armstrong Ontario, she was a long-time resident of Thunder Bay.
Agnes is a residential school survivor and attended St. Peters and St. Martins Catholic schools as a youth. As a child she spent her summers in Onamakawash and Wawieg Lake, living in a log cabin with her grandparents and siblings, swimming, exploring the woods, and eating wild game and fish.
In Thunder Bay she was a full-time mother, enjoyed Bingo, dressing up, socializing and had many friends in her life. She was caring, generous, and fierce when it came to protecting her family.
After surviving cancer, her health gradually deteriorated, but her will to live did not. Against the odds she survived many obstacles and was overjoyed with the arrival of her first great grandchild Evie Marie Kisro Shapwaykeesic in 2021.
Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her children, Alvin (Jenny), Eric (Andrea), Joshua, Destiny and Dalton, her grandchildren Nishina, Elliot, Dylan, Aeden and Khloe, Brendan, Ethan, Serenity and Angle-lynn, and her great granddaughter Evie, siblings, Webb, Maryann, Morris, Joanne, and Ronnie, nieces and nephews and many friends.
She is predeceased by her parents Mike and Marie Shapwaykeesic, and grandparents Esther and Sogo Ketakijigick, Matthew and Josephine Shapwaykeesic, her niece Olivia Shapwaykeesic and nephew Forrest Shapwaykeesic, twin grandchildren Zoe & Torvi Shapwaykeesic.
Funeral Arrangements have been made at Blake Funeral Home for Tuesday March 15th with visitation starting at 10am and service presiding by Father Joseph of St. Peters Church.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Greg at Blake Funeral Chapel, and Morris Shapwaykeesic.
