Obituary for Anne Guzik

Anne Guzik

GUZIK- it is with great sadness we announce the passing of Anne Guzik on August 28, 2022 at the age of 92 at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a short battle with cancer. A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Anne was born in Poland on October 12, 1929. As a child she moved to France and live there until she immigrated to Canada in 1951. She settled in Hillsport and worked as a cook for American Can Company. She worked there for over 30 years and upon her retirement she moved to Thunder Bay. She did not slow down, volunteering at the Polish Legion Branch 149 and Meals on Wheels and continued to do so for many years.
Anne was always busy with one of her many hobbies. She was an excellent seamstress, crocheter and knitter creating many toques, mitts and wonderful garments. She also continued to create incredible meals with her cooking skills, usually making enough food to feed a country for a family get-together. She tended passionately to her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed travelling, visiting many countries throughout her life.
Sadly, Anne’s ability to complete her favorite activities started to diminish after being diagnosed with Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) in the early 2000s. However, she continued to maintain a lovely home, cooked, gardened, and spent time with her friends and family at her favourite coffee establishments.
Anne is survived by her children, Peter (Anne) and Eileen, grandchildren Victoria (Shawn), Taylor (Courtney), Leala, Jana and Gavin and great-grandchildren Isabella, Joshua and Kyler; and great-grandchild due March 2023. She is also survived by her siter Anastasia and brother Andy (Vesna) and sister-in-law Zofia along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. Anne was predeceased by her loving husband Walter, mother and father, sister Katherine, brother Michel and son-in-law Henry.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Blake Funeral Chapel, 200 May Street South, with Rev. Mr. Larry Kurec presiding. Interment to follow in Mountainview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation or the St. Joseph’s Foundation-Hospice Unit.
