Obituary for Audrey Kompon

Audrey (Aukje) Kompon
October 10, 1954-March 20, 2022

“In God is my salvation and my glory: The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.” Psalm 62:7

Audrey Kompon (nee Vis) went home to her Heavenly Father on March 20, 2022 after a brief and courageous fight with cancer. Audrey was surrounded at home by the love of her family when she was called to Heaven.

Audrey was born on October 10, 1954 in Fort William, Ontario to Dirk and Theresa Vis. Audrey was a very dedicated worker where she spent over 20 years working a variety of jobs at McKellar Hospital, Port Arthur General Hospital, and Thunder Bay Regional Hospital until her retirement in 2014. She wasn’t retired very long before deciding to return to work part-time at Holland Bakery. She loved her sweets and developed close bonds with her co-workers. Audrey’s joy in life was spending time with her family, especially going on daily walks with her husband Joe and working in her garden. We all looked forward to our weekly family meals where mom would surprise us with her grand desserts. In her early years, Audrey loved camping with her family and friends at Northern Lights Resort and her Friday night bowling league. Audrey dedicated her life to her family and her true calling came when she was blessed with two grandchildren, Brielle and Brenna. She loved spending time with them at the park or shopping at the dollar store. Audrey and Joe also loved to open their home to fostering children from Dilico over many years.

Audrey will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 44 years, Joe, her three children Melanie (Frank Rizzuto), Tom (Chantal), and Michael (Crystal) and her two grandchildren, Brielle and Brenna. Audrey is also survived by several brothers and sisters: Allan (Joan), Teeny (John), Audrey (Okko), Jim (Linda), Alice, Andy (Alice), Anne, Steve (Bonnie), Rick (Joyce), and Janet (Dave). She is also survived by brother-in-laws: Barry Garton, sister-in-laws: Tammy Van Elburg (Gerald), Wendy Leclerc (Renee) and many nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by parents Dirk and Theresa Vis and Tom and Betty Kompon, Tjamme (brother), Theresa (sister), Amy (sister), Kathy (sister), and brother-in-law’s Jake Boer, Gary Oglivie, Wayne Caruso and Michael Bewski.

The family of Audrey Kompon would like to thank her sisters Janet and Anne and her daughter Melanie for taking on all the home care so she could live her last weeks in the comfort of her home surrounded by family and friends.

As per her wishes, Audrey has been cremated. Visitation will take place at Hope Christian Reformed Church on Sunday, March 27 from 6pm-8pm followed by a funeral at Hope Christian Reformed Church on Monday, March 28 at 11am.
