Obituary for Dona Grant

Today we mourn the passing of our dear mother, Dona Marie Grant (nee Roberts) at the age of 88.
She was born in Ballantynes Cove, Nova Scotia where she graduated as a registered nurse. There she met our dad, Leo Grant. They then moved to Toronto where they were married in 1957. Mom worked at Sick Kids hospital until Leo’s work opportunities lead them to the Lakehead where they stayed and raised our family.
She was pre deceased by Leo on December 3, 2003. She is survived by her children Allan (Wendy), Tom, Jo-Ann (Jyrki Elo), Arthur, James, Andrew (Pamela)and Donald (Aubrey), many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Marguerite and Allan.
Dona always seemed to be going non stop. She put her career as an RN on hold to raise 7 kids, later re-certifying for another 20 years of nursing at Central Park Lodge. She was always active in the church as a member of the CWL, singing in the senior choir and professing her faith, which she held dear her whole life.
Throughout her retirement, she loved a good book or knitting countless toques and mittens to donate to various shelters and people in need. Before moving to Chartwell, she enjoyed daily swims at the Columbus Centre where she also enjoyed volunteering at Lobster Dinners with Leo. Together they enjoyed many Knights of Columbus socials including the annual 4th Degree weekends.
You will be sadly missed mom but no one deserves a rest more than you. We love you mom
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Friday, May 19th, at 1:30pm, celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
Thank you to the staff at Chartwell Isabella and the medical professionals at the Thunder Bay Regional for their compassion and support.
