Obituary for Evelyn Kinsman

Evelyn (Sample) Kinsman RN, completed her last earthly rounds on March 22, 2022.
Born on July 14, 1935 on the family farm in Chapple Township, Evelyn moved with her family to Fort William when her father took teaching duties in the district. She attended FWCI, and in 1955 became the youngest graduate of the McKellar General Nursing School. She worked as a nurse at McKellar General Hospital in ER/Paediatrics. She then spent two decades at Beacon Hill Lodge, ultimately achieving the role of Director of Nursing.
She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi – Ontario Psi Master – and a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church of Canada – St. Andrews/First Presbyterian and longtime member of the Fort William Curling Club.
She married Wesley Kinsman on April 28, 1956. After living for their first few years as a couple in his parents’ converted garage, they bought their family home on Grey Crescent where they would live for over forty years and raise four children. Their lives were full of family vacations, camping, fishing, piano lessons, hockey games, and the happy chaos of four kids and a long line of beloved pets. Upon Ev’s retirement in 2000, she and Wes returned to the family farm just outside Emo, where they built a house, enjoyed the countryside and lived until Wes’ untimely passing in 2002.
Evelyn was a quiet but avid supporter of all the shenanigans her children and grandchildren got up to, spending hours in hockey arenas, recital halls and graduation ceremonies. She was passionate about sports and would spend hours curled up in front of the TV flipping between “her boys” (meaning the Blue Jays) and curling. She didn’t love cooking but could whip up a batch of butter tarts like nobody else.
She was predeceased by her parents Tom and Ruby Sample, by her beloved Wesley, son Philip, her two brothers Eric and Harry Sample, granddaughter Hannah Kinsman and great-granddaughter Sophia Foehner. She will belovingly remembered by three children – Kathleen (Werner) Ott, Ian (Vikki), Tom (Michele), by grandchildren Erika Ott, Megan Ott, Laura Bron (Jeff), Lisa Ostrum (Jared), Robert Kinsman (Cristal), Bryan Kinsman (Betheny), Sherri-Lyn Foehner (Sean). She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Parker and Grace Bron; Wesley, Faye and Thea Kinsman, and Alex and Nathan Foehner. Also survived by her special niece Brenda Buttars (Warren) and nephew Jim Sample, as well as sister-in-law Eleanor Sample & niece Elizabeth Long and nephew Kevin Sample.
She goes now to be with her Wes… a love story coming full circle.
Service will be held on Monday, April, 4th, 2022 at 11am at First Presbyterian Church, Grey Street with family visitation at the church one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow at a later date.
