Obituary for Gennaro DeLuca

Gennaro De Luca, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home on August 3, 2022.
Gennaro was born April 5, 1930 in Sambiase, Catanzaro, Italy. The son of Pasqualino De Luca and Teresina Pansino. He married Raffaela Stranges April 7 1957, together they had 5 children. In 1966 they immigrated to Canada and settled in Fort William.
Gennaro first found work at CP Rail, then found work at Northern Wood Preservers (Buchanan Forest Products) where he worked for over 25 years.
His garden was his passion where he enjoyed spending time nurturing and growing vegetables for the family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten by his children and all who had the pleasure to meet and know him. We all will miss him!
Gennaro was a lifetime member of the Da Vinci Center and a member of St. Dominic’s Parish. He was active within his community, and loved Italian traditions, he especially loved to help his friends and family with making wine and homemade sausages.
Survived by his five children Teresina (Pietro), Carmelina (Derrick), Pasqualino (Alison), Teodoro (Teddy) and Maria (Cyrus). As well as his sister Carmelina, sister-in-law Aquila (Rinaldo) Slobbe, sister-in-law Marlene Stranges, brother-in-law Antonio Stranges, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
His grandchildren, GianFranco and Marica, Christopher, Adam, Krista, Tyler, Joshua and Ella. Great grandchildren Brooklyn, Mason, Graysen, Theo, Sofia, Alessio, Elisa and Samuele will all miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his spouse of 62 years Raffaela, his parents, Pasqualino De Luca and Teresina Pansino; as well as his brothers Gaspare and Vincenzo, and, daughter-in-law Julia De Luca.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass in St. Dominic’s R.C. Church beginning at 11:00 am, concelebrated by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi and Msgr. P.M. Stilla. Entombment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in St. Dominic’s R.C. Church with Vigil Prayers being offered at 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart & Stroke or Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
