Obituary for Giuseppe Lombardo

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Giuseppe Lombardo a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He passed away on October 16, 2022 at the age of 97, surrounded by his loving family.
Giuseppe was born on April 18, 1925 in Siderno Marina, Italy. He was the second born to Rosa and Vincenzo Lombardo. He had 8 siblings.
In 1946 at the young age of 20, he married the love of his life Giuseppina.
In 1952 he immigrated to Canada in search of work.
In 1954 his wife and their 3 young children joined him in Thunder Bay where they began a new life. Over the years they were blessed with 7 more children.
He began working at the Foundry and later became a cement finisher working for Corazza Ltd.
Giuseppe was a family man. He loved to keep in touch with his family where he made many trips back home to Italy.
He loved to go to the Casino any chance he had. Grand Portage was his favorite until they opened The Gateway Casino in Thunder Bay.
Giuseppe loved the outdoors. He had a passion for gardening, hunting and fishing. He loved playing cards with family and friends and he looked forward to getting together with his family for special dinners. He enjoyed Italian traditions like making wine, homemade sausages and homemade pizza with a twist, these were only a few of his favorite pastimes.
Giuseppe is survived by his children Vince (Rosa), Pino Bruzzese (son-in-law), Maria (Enzo Quadrilatero), Mike (Maria), Tony, Silvana (Mike Muia), Cosimo, Sam, Joanne (Domenic), Carlo (Graziella) along with 27 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Predeceased by his parents Vincenzo and Rosa Lombardo his wife Giuseppina, his oldest daughter Rosa, his brother Carlo, Domenico, Pietro, Francesco and sister Ida and numerous sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Domenic’s Church, celebrated by Rev. Mike Mahoney. Interment will follow immediately following Mass at St. Andrew’s Cemetery 690 Oliver Road.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Blakes Funeral Chapel with prayers offered at 8:00 pm. If friends and family desire memorials to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
Giuseppe will be dearly missed. He will live forever in our hearts.
