Obituary for Joseph Josefchak

Joseph John Josefchak passed away peacefully October 23, 2022, at the age of 93. Joseph was born in Nitra Czechoslovakia, June 26, 1929, and came for a better life in Canada in September 1934 with his brother and mother. He came to join his father. He grew up in Upsala Ontario and attended the SS No 1 School. He started working for the Canadian Pacific Railway just like his father, brother (and later on his nephew) at the age of 13 for 10 years. He then moved to Fort William in 1949
He married Veronica (Ronnie) Pompura in 1953 and later joined London Life where he worked for 30 years. They had three sons Robert, Kevin and Mark.
Joe was a social individual. He had a big heart. He was very proud of his family and every one of their achievements and successes gave him great pleasure. He touched many lives with his encouraging words and positive attitude. He thrived as a driver for cancer patients for 19 years to the point where patients asked for driver Joe. Joe was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He taught his kids to hunt and fish and enjoyed the many trips with family and friends to various locations including Burnaby, Montreal, Markham, St. Catharines, Texas, Florida and Calgary to visit family and friends.
His distinguished career with London Life was marked with numerous achievements. Joe remained an active advocate and financial supporter of the new hospital. He was also an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus as well as lengthy parishioner of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
He is survived by his wife (Veronica) of 69 years, his three sons Robert Josefchak (Maureen), Kevin Josefchak (Lynn) and Mark Josefchak (JoAnn), grandchildren Erin, Ryan, Daryl, Katy, Adam, Danica, Cole, Juliana and great grandchildren Emily, Noah, Madison, Cohen, and Calihan. He was truly proud of each and every one of his children and grandchildren as well as their accomplishments.
He is predeceased by his parents, brother Steven (1979) and his niece Patricia (2019).
The family would like to thank Drs. Skunta, Kolobov and the staff at TCU Hogarth for their care and support. The family would also like to thank Dr. K. Addison for her extraordinary care, time, and efforts with Joe.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 9 am on Saturday, October 29, 2022. The funeral will be live streamed through Blakes Funeral Chapel facebook for people who are unable to attend. The Live streaming can be accessed via www.facebook.com/BlakeFuneralChapel/. Donations can be made to the Patient Hospitality Cancer Centre (Thunder Bay Regional Hospital) or a charity of your choice.
