Obituary for Lys Clifford

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and daughter Lys Therese Clifford (Stewart) on February 21, 2023 after a short battle with cancer.
Lys was born on June 14, 1950 in Rivers, Manitoba to Valerie and Stanley Stewart. In her early years, with her father in the military, she lived and attended schools in England and Germany. After her dad retired from the military they moved to Thunder Bay where she attended and completed her education at Sir Winston Churchill high school.
In 1970 Lys married the love of her life, Dennis Clifford. After stops in Nipigon, Fort McMurray, Leduc and Whitehorse they returned to Thunder Bay.
While raising a young family she found time to work, curl and golf. She was always happy to speak about the row of baby carriages lined up behind the sheets while she curled either in Alberta or at the Fort William Curling Club. She made many lifelong friends through curling and work.
After retiring from a 25 year career with WSIB, she could be found in the garden or scouring the internet and flyers for the next sale or travel deal. She became an avid traveler venturing to sun filled destinations, cruises and China. Her favourite place was camp where she would sit for hours fishing at the end of the dock. The catch of the day would sometimes include a pair of prescription glasses which were lost the year before.
She was predeceased by her father Stan and brother Glen. She is survived by her mother Valerie and brother Timothy, husband Dennis, sons Trevor (Vicky), Dale (Maggie) and daughter Becky. She will be sadly missed by 8 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Center, St. Joseph’s Hospice or the charity of your choice.
