Mrs. Mary West, age 93 yr. passed away peacefully on March 7, 2022 at Pioneer Ridge where she had resided for the past three years and where she received excellent and compassionate care.
Mary was born in Fort William, April 1, 1928 to Jack and Annie MacKenzie, being the youngest of three children.
Mary spent her career as an educator, teaching at many local elementary schools and eventually becoming the first female principal in Fort William. Later in her career, she taught at Lakehead University Teacher’s College. After 30 years of teaching she retired, along with her husband Bill to the home they had built at Shebandowan. They spent many happy years at Shebandowan where they loved to entertain and were the ultimate hosts.

One of Mary’s passions was painting and she was a talented artist. She belonged to the art group at 55 Plus for many years and her paintings were always on display as part of the year end show. Many of her friends and family were lucky to have been gifted with one of Mary’s lovely pieces of art.
Mary spent many enjoyable winters at her Lakeland home in Florida where she made lifelong friends and enjoyed being part of the snowbird community.
