Obituary for Micheal Girardin

It is with extreme sadness that we the family of Johnathan Micheal Christopher Girardin, known to family and friends as Micheal announce his passing on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the age of 62, with sister Cindy and nephew Steven by his side, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Micheal was born on December 3, 1960 in what was formerly Fort William, now Thunder Bay, Ontario at McKellar General Hospital. For the last many years, Micheal lived in Kakabeka Falls, Ontario. Micheal graduated in June 1978 from Selkirk C.V.I. From a young age, Micheal had a love and amazing talent for song-writing and guitar playing. He also took a strong interest in electronics and computers, completing coursework in his earlier years. Micheal had a love for gardening; he put so much tender, loving, care into his planting and had it down to a fine precision. Although, he tried to teach his daughter and grandchildren his gardening tips and tricks, none were able to tend to the lemon, orange, or apple plants like he was able to.

Micheal was strong in his faith, believing that Jesus Christ died for our sins, so that we may have eternal life, with our Father and those who have gone before him and will join him when they are called to be with the Lord. His daughter Patricia will forever be grateful for the time that she had beginning to get to know him and the seeds and roots that he has planted and looks forward to getting to know family and learning more about him through them.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter Patricia Pollen (Micheal), grandchildren Rocky, Bradley and Faith Holmquist, and Selena and Gideon Pollen. Also, dearly missed by sister Judy Ramsbottom, brother Randy Girardin, sister Cindy D’Orazio (Sam), sister Marion Zuback (Greg), and brother Donald Girardin, stepbrothers Christopher, Richard, and Robin Girardin and stepsister Michelle Girardin. Micheal is also survived by aunts Sylvia Van Voort, Audrey Kornylo and Josephine Girardin, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Micheal will also be deeply missed by close friends Ed, Sheila and Jerry Nelson, who were there for him during some of his most difficult days.

Micheal is predeceased by his parents Frances and George Girardin, brothers Billy and Nicky Cherniski and Ricky Girardin, grandson Nicholas (Nicky Ray) Holmquist, great niece Kayliegh Ivall and great-nephew Nicky Girardin; and grandparents Baba Lena Lupkowski, Jaju Frank Kornylo, and Grandma Maria Girardin.

Micheal’s family would like to thank the wonderful physicians, nurses, hospital staff, especially the oncology department and Unit 1A from the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for the amazing care and compassion shown to him during his illness. A special thank you goes out to landlord, Jim Beaney, for contacting emergency response at the onset of his illness, as it allowed family to have the opportunity to say their good-byes. Jim’s Mom, Dorothy, also had a special place in Micheal’s heart.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 when family and friends gather for service at Blake Funeral Home, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

While it pains us to have lost you, we rejoice in knowing in our hearts that you have been reunited with loved ones and Jesus. Thank you for inspiring us to be compassionate, and may the limited time that you had allow us all to love each of our loved ones and live life to the fullest. We love you and may you rest in eternal peace.
