Obituary for Mike Morrison

Ogimaa Waacheyab. Michael James Morrison Jr.
August 21, 1956 – February 18, 2022
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ogimaa Waachiyeb Michael J. Morrison Jr. Of Naongashing First Nation and later changed membership to Mishkeegogamang First Nation.
Michael’s family looked upon him as a leader and the one who guided them through many ups and downs faced in life. Michael helped and supported family through many hardships and advocated for the rights, care and well-being of his family members. He always had the right words to say even when it meant having to be honest and straightforward, you knew he cared and wanted the best for everyone. Michael cared and had much love for his son, Justin Morrison, and predeceased daughter, Michelle Morrison. Michael was close with all his nieces and nephews. He called his nephews “my boy”.
Michael’s love for sports became apparent at an early age and he pursued his loves of baseball by forming his own teams with other family members “The Renegades” and fighting as a Boxer at the national and international levels.
Michael was an instructor at Academy of Learning, moving on then to Nishnawbe Aski Nation where he worked and supported NAN communities for many years. Building supports and friendships wherever he went.
Michael loved attending Pow Wows in his home community of Big Grassy and Big Island First Nation and speaking the language with his family back home. He was a fluent speaker.
Michael enjoyed his leisure time playing BINGO where he made many friends. If you went to BINGO in Thunder Bay, it was most likely you seen Michael there playing.
He will be lovingly missed by son; Justin Morrison, grandson; Damian Morrison, sister; Dawna Morrison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends.
Michael is predeceased by his beloved daughter; Michelle Morrison, sisters; Diane George, Laurie Anne George, brothers; Brian George, Albert Morrison, Glen George, and parents; Mike Morrison Sr. and Nancy George
Michael will be immensely missed by his family and friends.
