Obituary for Olive Klanac

It is with heavy hearts our family announces the passing of Caroline Olive Klanac on January 6, 2022. Born in London, ON, July 17 1931, Olive grew up in Windsor and attended local schools. In 1950, she moved to Fort William to attend nursing school at McKellar Hospital graduating in 1952 and spending the next 35 years nursing at McKellar. It was during this time that Olive met the love of her life Joe Klanac. They were married on April 25, 1953 and spent the next 67 years together all in Thunder Bay. Olive, is survived her children, Diane Salatino(Marc) Atlanta, GA, Bob of London, ON, Linda Fleming(Jim) of Mississauga, ON. Eight grandchildren Laura Rawls(Jesse), Jennifer Schippert(John), Jeffrey Salatino(Kylee), Kimberly, Andy, Christine Fleming, Madeleine and Will Klanac, 5 great grandchildren, Jordan Rawls, Mason and Reese Schippert, Wyatt and Sloane Salatino. One sister-in-law Agnes Gibb of Thunder Bay. Childhood and long-time friend Marie McIllwain. Numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends in Thunder Bay and throughout Canada and the U.S. She was predeceased by her husband Joe in May 2020 and parents Elvin(1960) and Florence Bock(1933). Olive’s main focus was her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her retirement years she enjoyed coffee with friends, family get togethers in Thunder Bay, trips to southern Ontario and annual treks to Atlanta during the winter months.

We would like to express our extreme gratitude to the staff at Chartwell Isabella, St. Joseph’s Hospice and Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for their care and support. A special thank you to Brenda Kainula for the care and compassion given to Olive over the years. We will especially cherish the support she received at Chartwell Isabella during her years there and what the staff meant to Olive. A sincere heartfelt thank you.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Foundation or St Joseph’s Care Group would be appreciated. Given the current corona virus restrictions a private family service will held at a later date.
