Obituary for Petro Kolomeychuk

Petro Kolomeychuk passed away unexpectedly at home January 16, 2023. Born February 4, 1994 in Kremenets, Ukraine, he emigrated at age 6 with his brother to live in Minnesota and then to Ontario. An international citizen, Petro was athletic, artistic and adventure-loving. He thrilled to the challenges of hockey, dirt-biking and downhill skiing, and equally reveled in the spotlight as a Ukrainian dance performer. He was an active member of the Ukrainian Youth Association (CYM) and also served with the 66 Challenger Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. On graduating from Superior Collegiate & Vocational Institute, he aspired to a career in health sciences. Petro’s vibrancy was only interrupted by his struggle with addiction. Street drugs eventually claimed his life at age 28. Petro is survived by his parents Taras Kolomeychuk and Thora Cartlidge in Neebing, Ontario, brother Mykhaylo, in Oliver-Paipoonge, and sisters Lyuba Solnik (Shawn) in St. Eustache, Manitoba, Viktoriya Martens (Danny) in Winnipeg, Natasha Martens (Pierre-Luc) in Quebec City, and Olya Lawrence in Poland; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends across Canada, the U.S.A. and Ukraine.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ, 639 McIntosh Street, celebrated by Rev. Stepan Didur. Interment to follow at the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday evening from 5-7 pm in the church with Panakhyda at 6:30 pm.
