Obituary for Ronald Kresack

Mr. Ronald Albert Kresack passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital after a brave fight with cancer on Monday, January 9th, 2023. Ron is survived by Joan, his loving wife of 65 years; his four children, Ron (Sally), Brian (Wendy), Janice Van Dyk (Bob) and John (Margaret); 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild on the way; sister Eleanor; nieces Tasha, Twyla and nephew Coleman.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Betty Kresack.
Ron worked for the Ministry of Transportation for 35 years as a Signs and Buildings Inspector, retiring in 1993 as the head of the department.
He enjoyed many hobbies and activities including golf, cross country skiing, gardening, coin collecting, computers and glass blowing. He enjoyed travelling all over Canada and the southwestern states in a tent trailer, passing on his appreciation for the beauty of nature to the entire family. Later he and Joan travelled to many of the Caribbean islands and spent some winters in Arizona. But his real love was photography. He spent many hours of his leisure time in his home-built darkroom and studied with Ansel Adams.
Ron and Joan retired at the home that he spent years completing on the shores of Lake Superior. Whether cutting the grass, felling trees, blowing snow or chasing the geese off of the shoreline he was always busy around the property.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the hard-working compassionate nurses of the oncology ward for their tireless efforts and care. Special thanks to Kate, Olivia and Carole.
A Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held on Friday, January 13th in the Scandia Room of the Valhalla Inn from 1 to 3pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in Ron's name to the Northern Cancer Fund.
