Obituary for Ronnie "Ron" Glena

Ronnie Eddie (Scrap Iron) Glena

As per his wishes, Ron died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 19, 2022. The oldest of 5 siblings, Ron was born to parents Alex and Frances Glena in Swan River, Manitoba on March 19, 1952. At 9 months of age, the family moved to Westfort, where he was raised along with his sister and 3 brothers. Ron attended local schools playing sports thorough out. In 1972, he was awarded Defensive Linebacker of the year, which still hangs in the hall of Westgate High School. After high school Ron went to Sioux Lookout to work in the Sawmill for a while. Westfort, his home, called him back so Ron worked with his dad at the scrap yard until an opening came up on the railroad. On May 8, 1979, Ron joined the Canadian National Railroad working in the transportation department as a Conductor/Switchman for 30 years, retiring on April 30, 2009. In 1988 Ron married Pauline Genereux and settled in Westfort, the southern part of Thunder Bay to raise their 2 boys. Throughout Ron’s working years he continued to be active in sports playing hockey, broomball and baseball. When his health started failing, golf was his game of choice and not missing any games on his big screen at home with Toronto Blue Jays being his favorite team. Ronnie’s faith in God ran very deep in his veins and his love for his family brought tears to his eyes especially when the grandchildren came around. His love for his family caused him to be a fierce advocate when he thought it necessary. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Pauline, his sons Fred (Lana) Clement and Don (Jennifer) Nadon, grandchildren Connor (Rebecca), Olivia and Thomas, Justin, Jessica, Johnathon and Jacob. Godchildren Jennifer and Serina, sister Marilyn (Al) Lavender, brothers Ricky (Norma), Robert (Alba) and Randy (Wendy). Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and other relatives also survive. He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Frances Glena, aunts Vivian, Luba and Audrey and uncles Michael, Harry, John, George, Mike and Tony, also cousins and other relatives. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, in St. Patrick’s Cathedral where family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 am, celebrated by Msgr. P.M. Stilla. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service in the church.
