Obituary for Ruth Chezick

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ruth Chezick, resident of Pioneer Ridge has passed away on January 27, 2023 just three months shy of her 90th birthday.
Ruth was born in Fort William Ontario and was a lifelong resident. She attended Franklin Street School and also spent much of her time helping out at home and taking care of her younger siblings while their mom and dad were working. Later on, Ruth found employment at Safeways and Eatons in Fort William prior to meeting the love of her life, Edward Chezick.
Ruth and Ed were married October 22, 1953 and together they raised five children. Anyone who knew Ruth will remember her as a kind, generous, and selfless human being, always willing to help anyone anytime. Ruth’s main focus in life was her family and her church. Early on she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, later transferring to Calvary Lutheran Church where she remained a member for the rest of her life. Over the years at Calvary, among other things, Ruth was a member of the Altar Guild and Mary Martha Guild as well as the quilters group, helping to make quilts to be distributed to those in need. In her spare time Ruth enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens or working on various projects at her sewing machine.
Ruth is predeceased by her husband Edward, parents Ken and Sarah Stuart, her brother Dennis, daughter-in-law Kathie and grandson Karl as well as numerous other relatives.
Ruth is survived by her sisters Thelma Heikkinen and Gail Ruuska, her brothers Errol Stuart (Debbie) and Jim Stuart, her sons Barry (Val), Bruce (Rhonda), Greg (Shirley) and her daughters Karen and Katherine, her grandchildren Christine Taylor (Carl), Sarah Facca (Mark), Erin Chezick, Erica Blekkenhorst (Dan), Rebecca Chezick, Lara Chezick, Evan Chezick (Michelle), and Graham Chezick along with great grandchildren Lily, Finn, Maria, Lydia, Joey, Brighton, Jaida and numerous other relatives.
Our family would like to express our extreme gratitude to the staff of both Dawson Court and Pioneer Ridge for the outstanding care they have provided over the years for our mother and for being part of Ruth’s life.
Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial along with interment will take place at a later time with Pastor Matthew Diegel officiating. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay or a charity of your choice.
