Obituary for Sheila Olson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of a dear sister, aunt, cousin, Sheila (Otway) Olson.
Sheila passed away peacefully on April 20th after a long illness. She was born in Fort William to Irene (Steene) Otway and Clarence (Bud) Otway on December 25th, 1943. A Christmas baby, she always thought Christmas Day was special for her and the Lord.
Sheila attended school in Thunder Bay and worked for many years at McKellar hospital. She was introduced by our dear cousin Simmy Peterson of Minneapolis to her future husband Kenneth Olson. Sheila and Kenneth married on August 20th, 1966 and she moved to Minneapolis. Sheila worked for many years at Allina Health Care. Unfortunately her husband Ken passed seven years after their marriage.
Her parents had passed away so she decided to remain in Minneapolis after Ken’s passing. She made numerous friends through the hospital. Her home was full of Vietnamese and South Korean heart recipients in recovery. Sheila had a big heart and would help anyone.
In 2002 Sheila decided to come home to Thunder Bay and sold her house, packed up her belongings and drove home in what would be described as a convoy. Look out Canada Customs. She spent a number of years at Sister Lila Greco and when her health failed her she moved into Hogarth Riverview Manor. Her life was not easy but she persevered and always kept a positive outlook.
Sheila is survived by her sister Sharon (Otway) Hacio, her niece Marissa Jordan and children Gianna and Elise of Minneapolis. Also surviving is nephew-in-law Richard Despres and her beloved cousin Simmy Peterson of Altoona Wisconsin.
She is predeceased by her parents Bud and Irene Otway, her husband Ken Olson, her brother-in-law Ken Hacio and her niece Kendall Despres.
She is in the hands of our Lord; good-bye for now my beloved sister.
Sincere thanks to the staff of 2 Birch H.R.M. for their care, kindness and professionalism during her time with them.
There will be no funeral as per her wishes. Cremation has taken place.
