Obituary for Theren Smith

It is with broken hearts that the family of Theren James Smith announces his passing on the 22nd of July at the age of 36. Beloved father, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend, Theren will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Theren was born on January 21, 1986, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to Christine Scheibler and Hugh Smith. He attended Vance Chapman Public School and Hillcrest and Nip-Rock High School. Theren wore many hats (literally, they were one of his favourite things). A jack of all trades, master of one – being dad was his favourite title of all. He worked carpentry, construction, and mining in various locations across Canada. Theren lived by his motto and tattoo ‘Carpe Diem’ - family and friends were always welcomed into his home with loud, enthusiastic music and greetings.

Predeceased by his Grandfather James Smith, Opa Johannes Scheibler, Uncles Frank and Ralph Scheibler, cousin Jeffrey Scheibler, and numerous brothers of choice.

Theren is survived by his beloved children Amelia (15), Victoria (13), and William (12); parents Christine Scheibler and Hugh and Susan Smith; Grandmother Ann Smith, Oma Inge Scheibler of Emo, Ontario; siblings Katrinna, Amanda (Mike), Stefanie (Jay), Kristin (Arnold), Tyler (Sara), Tiziana (Jesse), Brittany (Ashton), Terilyn, Crystal (Josh), Breanna, Eliza, Ariyana, Terrianna, and numerous others who call him bro, as well as his previous spouse and friend, Danielle Korhonen (Steve and Leland). Theren leaves behind many nieces and nephews: Kaeden, Olivia, Matthew, Andrew, Cody, Robby, Paytyn, Harlen, Sonny, Braxton, Ember, Kayah, Kaycie, Kloe, Laura, Travis, Violet, Jasmyn, Amelia, and Jaxtyn, and many more who call him uncle. Similarly, Theren was well-loved by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Although Theren battled many demons in this realm, they never dulled his spark, or stopped his feet from dancing. He had recently begun rebuilding his life as an amputee. Many thanks to Theren’s staff and peers at St. Joeseph’s Hospital for celebrating him and his progress.

A Celebration of Life will take place on August 5th at 11am at Blake’s Funeral Chapel. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. If friends desire, memorials to Cystic Fibrosis would be appreciated.
