Obituary for Valerie Bazaluk

We are devastated to announce the passing of Valerie Bazaluk (Hinks) Val was born October 21, 1951 in Winnipeg Manitoba. She had just celebrated her 70th birthday. She was raised in Souris Manitoba by Cliff and Norma Hinks. Souris was a town that forever owned part of her heart. Anyone who knew her understood that she lived life on her terms and her feisty nature was definitely her signature. Mom took great pride in her ability to cook and feed a lot of people. Eventually had the opportunity to run her own restaurant at the Westfort Prosvita with her good friend Blaine. Mom worked various jobs throughout her life including the Westfort Co-op, the Adanac Hotel and Robins on Arthur St. Mom spent 25 wonderful years vacationing at her happy place The Royal Cancun, where her and Dad made many lifelong friends. Mom even decided to take up camping in the last 8 years, another place where she enjoyed feeding everyone. Although she couldn’t always be at all the hockey games or concerts or dance recitals, she was no doubt her grandchildren’s biggest fan. Predeceased by her parents Cliff and Norma Hinks, in laws Sam and Annette Bazaluk and her daughter Julie Schelling. Survived by her loving husband Rick, son Chris (Allison), daughter Terra (Brad) and her grandchildren Kierra, Mason, and Kalix. Also survived by her sister Lori (Rick) Fraser, sister Lynda (Robin) Couvier, brother in law Ken (Sandra) Bazaluk, brother in law David (Val) Bazaluk. Also many nieces and nephews who all held a special place in her heart. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her honour to a charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Blake Funeral Chapel, 200 May Street S.
